Ali Emir Tapan presents his first ever self-portrait in Galerist's 25th anniversary exhibition, opening 15 September 2026. The minimal and poetic piece consists of 3 golden peony petals, attached to the vertical surface of wall, in uncertain motion with empty space around them, which roughly coincodes with the width and height of Tapan's bodily siluette. Tapan does not comment much on the piece, reluctant to affect the metaphoric potential, other than reminding that his body is covered with tattoos of peonies and that all that is lived is golden and therefore cannot remain. The piece might announce a new series of golden and more figurative works and possibly Tapan's return to regularly producing sculptures in a contemporary art context again.
