Leonore, disguised as a boy named 'Fidelio', gets herself employed at a Seville prison to rescue her husband, Florestan, a political prisoner. She gains access to his cell, where they reunite. When the tyrannical governor, Pizarro, tries to kill Florestan, Leonore intervenes, and justice prevails as Pizarro is arrested.
