Thebes is suffering from a terrible plague and Oedipus, its kings, promises to save his city. An oracle reveals that Thebes is harboring the murderer of the previous king, causing the plague. The truth is discovered: Oedipus, a foundling, is the killer of his father and the husband of his mother. He departs Thebes forever.
