Passing By: Seza Paker

Galerist is pleased to present ‘Passing By’ between October 25 – November 23, 2019, Seza Paker’s fifth solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition proposes a fathoming and a presentation of the relationships between agents of the mind through Paker’s assemblages (Untitled (Us)), sculptures (All Well revisited), and an enchanted video installation (Ghostly Tea Party).

In her exhibition ‘Passing By’, the artist presents what it means to be human without distancing from life. Paker does not retreat in a glass house or a cottage; instead she engages with life and her works, with a dedication to understand their terms of existence, do not fall behind on life but pass it by. These works are not only the outcome of the artists’ effort on understanding her existence, but are also an exploration of various faculties that form the modern human, and the meanings of being on Earth and being an Earthling. Politics, nature, technology, art – none of these factors that form today’s human being is left out of the picture. And inside are the assemblages from the artist’s archive compiled piece by piece, layer upon layer. These archival pieces – a photograph, piece of a vintage cloth, leather, henna, piece of makeup – with their physical entities kept in focus- form harmonious musical installations on stage. Repeating motifs gravitating towards a dark chaos (pieces of satellite falling on Earth in time, black Sun, buildings covering the surface of Earth) come together side by side in ‘Passing By’ and become shareable by other beings.

‘Passing By’ tackles the realities of being human without diving into the fog of the unconscious – by addressing the human with its relationship to nature, it tries to map out the agents of consciousness as lucid as can be. Comforts and concerns are interwoven in this exhibition that are ultimately personal but are also comprehensible by all when collectivity is at the core of personality. This exhibition responds to the dominant political regimes through humor and passion, and classifies the resistance lines elemental to being human.
