Tales of the Subconscious: Mert Alaş, Marcus Piggot

Press release

Internationally renowned photographers Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott’s solo exhibition titled “Tales of the Subconscious” can be visited at Galerist Istanbul between 17 June  -19 July, 2008. The exhibition will be sponsored by Beymen.

Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott’s photographs evoke both the sublime and the sinister. Beneath a veneer of perfection and seduction is an underlying narrative where the beauty of the image often veils a hidden menace. Alas and Piggott are inspired by the juxtaposition of the good and bad in life and fascinated by the layers of darkness and mystery behind their sitters’ characters.

Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott first displayed their work at London’s National Portrait Gallery exhibition, “Face of Fashion” in spring 2007. NPG director Sandy Nairne, describes Alas and Piggott as “...powerful innovators, producing images which shift the boundaries of creative portraiture”. Their first solo exhibition opened in 2007 at New York’s Visionaire gallery. “Tales of the Subconscious” will be their second solo exhibition.
